About Belize

Language: Belize is the only country in Central America that has English as their first language. However, many Belizeans also speak Spanish because all our neighboring countries are Spanish speaking countries. We also speak Creole.


Population: The population of the entire country of Belize is approximately 350,000. This includes Different types of ethnic groups living together in the country; this is why we are called a, “Melting Pot.”


Time Zone: Daylight saving time is not observed.


Topography: Belize occupies 8,867 square miles along the east coast of Central America, on the Caribbean Sea. The country contains the second-longest barrier reef in the world (185 miles) and three of the four coral atolls in the Western Hemisphere. Doyle’s Delight, in the Maya Mountains, recently replaced Victoria Peak as the official highest point, reaching 3,688 feet.


Government: Belize is an Independent Commonwealth country since September 21st, 1981; Belize has a, democratically elected parliamentary government.
